A new movie, Magic Trip, has just been released which shows the story of a road trip taken by Ken Kesey, the author of One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest and Neal Cassady, who appeared in Jack Kerouac’s Road Trip, along with others . Calling themselves “The Merry Band Of Pranksters” they travelled from California to New York in 1964, indulging in a mass orgy of drug taking which mainly consisted of LSD, in an old painted bus which may have been the original hippie bus .
Ken Kesey believed LSD was a doorway to enlightenment and hoped he would be able to turn America onto LSD, and intending to make a documentary of the Magic Trip took footage of the journey, which has been used to make the movie . Below is the trailer to the movie .
From the trailer, the movie seems like a journey back in time to a more innocent era but the Magic Trip may have been part of a CIA project whose disastrous effects are still being felt to this day . Whilst at Stanford University, Ken Kesey volunteered to take part into an experiment into the effects of LSD as part of MK Ultra, the infamous secret CIA programme which experimented in Mind Control amongst things and Kesey wasn’t the only famous counter-culture advocate of LSD who was involved . It is believed Timothy Leary, who it is said coined the phrase “Turn on,tune in, drop out” was also a volunteer for the same LSD experiment .
We are asked to believe this was the only involvement Kesey and Leary had with MK Ultra and the CIA, but the more that is uncovered about the involvement of the CIA with LSD in America in the 1960s, the more likely it seems the likes of Kesey and Leary were parts of a programme deliberately designed to introduce the youth of America to LSD and other drugs . For wherever you turn withthe major players in the LSD explosion, they all seem to have either been involved with MK Ultra or came from families who were connected to the military .
Dave McGowan, who had done some excellent research into the counter culture of the 1960s has noted that Jim Morrison of The Doors, John Phillips of The Mamas and Papas, Stephen Stills, Frank Zappa all had fathers who were in serious positions in the US military . Jim Morrison’s father, Admiral George Morrison was in charge of the warships involved in the Tonkin Gulf incident in Vietnam, which has now been admitted was a false flag incident deliberately engineered to escalate the war in Vietnam . It is known the CIA purchased LSD in the 1950s from a Swiss company, Sandoz who were the original manufactureres of LSD and later bought the drug from an American pharmaceutical company, Lilly . One of the many mysteries surrounding The Manson Family, apart from how they survived taking the staggering amounts of drugs they claimed to ingest, was how they funded the purchase of the drugs . Apart from Susan Atkin’s forays into prostitution and the occasional theft, the Family had no money coming in and it is suspected that the CIA supplied them with LSD and other drugs as part of their programme .
It would seem the counter culture of the 1960s was fuelled by the CIA and Kesey’s Magic Trip may have been part of this project . We will never discover whether Kesey or Leary were CIA agents or were just unwitting pawns in the game, as they have now died but in my opinion The Magic Trip was part of this MK Ultra experiment . It could be they were genuine advocates of LSD on the ‘path to enlightenment’ but manipulated into becoming figure heads for the counter-culture, in order to stone American youth into apathy when they may have been major opponents of American policy in the 1960s .
However interesting the history of 1960s counter-culture is, surely it has no relevance today ? But it seems the ghosts of MK Ultra are still alive, if MK Ultra ever died . One of the volunteers used in the MK Ultra experiments was Theodore Kaczynski, The Unabomber, who underwent experiments at Harvard University in the early 1960s and were described as”disturbing” and “ethically indefensible” . Like Kesey, we do not know whether he actually left MK Ultra or was still part of it when he was sending his parcel bombs to America .
In his anti Muslim rant “2083 – The European Declaration of Independence”, Anders Behring Breivik allegedly plagiarised large amounts from Theodore Kaczynski which was uploaded to the Internet just before the attacks in Norway . If Kaczynski was MK Ultra, it maybe that Breivik was the same and it could be whoever was behind the bombings, used the same material which had worked before . Kaczynski and Breivik appear to have shared the same outlook, but are their minds really their own ? We are told MK Ultra was closed down but it is difficult to believe 20 years of research and experimentation would have been destroyed ‘just like that’ and it seems bizarre someone who is supposedly anti Muslim attacked the blond, blue eyed Aryan youth of Norway .
From the trailer, Magic Trip, seems an enjoyable movie to watch but the Magic Trip was not fun for everyone, and still may not be today .
